1993
The seed of ecostore is planted at an ecovillage in Northland, New Zealand.
1997
Ahoy! Our flagship store launches in Auckland – the city of sails – offering refills and bulk products.
2002
We go super, launching into New Zealand supermarkets with our cleaning and dish products.
2003
We start making ecostore products at our own Auckland factory Eco Tech Solutions.
2004
G’day mate! We leap across the ditch and launch in Australia.
2009 – 2010
The Sustainable Business Network names ecostore Most Sustainable Business (2 years in a row!)
2010 – 2012
Our manufacturing facility is the first in Australasia to be certified altogether as Toitū net carbonzero, ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management), and Toitū enviromark diamond - the highest NZ level of environmental accreditation. Our Laundry and Dish products also get the Environmental Choice tick.
2011 – 2014
All our products are certified Cruelty Free, and endorsed by PETA. Our dish range is also certified as Kosher.
2012 – 2013
Our laundry products win New Zealand’s Canstar blue award for Most Satisfied Customers – 2 years running. Choice!
2014
Our new sugar plastic bottles – made from renewable sugarcane for a lower carbon footprint and 100% recyclable – win the NZ Sustainable Business Network Award. Sweet as!
2014
Good Soap for a Good Cause – our healthy fundraising option for schools, sports teams and community groups – raises $76,000 for good causes in the first year!
2014 – 2016
We launch in Asia, and bring eco-friendly products to China, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan.
2015
Whoop – our second Green Ribbon Award for sustainable business leadership. Way to grow!
2016
We launch in Hong Kong, Malaysia and the Philippines.
2017
Kiwis can now refill their favourite ecostore products at 50+ green stores across New Zealand. SKIN by ecostore, Extra Clean Laundry and Kids all make their debuts.
2018
Happy birthday (25 years!) We launch an Oral Care range for naturally healthy gnashers. Ultra Sensitive is Dermatologically Tested and endorsed by Sensitive Choice. Ecostore Bathroom & Shower Cleaner takes out the Canstar Blue Award, and our Rose & Geranium Body Wash wins a Bauer 'Best in Beauty' Award. And to finish an already busy year, we join the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s ‘New Plastics Economy Global Commitment’. Wahoo!
2019
Our Dish Liquid packs start using recycled plastic, we’re Halal certified and we launch our first Refill Station in Australia. Double win - both our Laundry Liquid and Laundry Powder win the Canstar Blue Award, plus our Rose & Geranium Hand Wash wins a Bauer 'Best in Beauty' award. We partner up with sustainability heroes 'The New Joneses' in Australia.
2020
Our Plastic Return Programme kicks off in New Zealand, remaking our old bottles into new ones (lightening the recycling system’s load a little). A whole New World - our Refill Stations launch into selected Kiwi supermarkets – with plenty more in the pipeline. We launch plastic-free Haircare Bars in NZ and take a clean sweep at the OhBaby! Awards – with gold for our Baby Body Wash, Multi-purpose Cleaner… oh, and the whole ecostore range! Australian ‘Mouths of Mums’ consumer group gives our Ultra Sensitive Dish Liquid and Laundry Liquid an almost-perfect 9/10. Our Home Care range is awarded 'Best Vegan Home Care' by Nourish Magazine, and we launch our first In-Supermarket Refill station In Australia.
2021
Ecostore becomes a B Corp™ - a certification recognised globally as the highest standard for social corporate responsibility.
