Ingredient - CI 77288 (Chromium Oxide Green)

CI 77288, also known as Chromium Oxide, is a green pigment derived from minerals that we use to add colour to our bar soaps.

‘CI’ stands for Colour Index and is used under the INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) system to identify different colourants and pigments used in cosmetics and personal care products.

Chromium oxide occurs in nature as the rare mineral Eskolaite, and can also be derived from the salt sodium dichromate. This ingredient is often used with CI 77891 (Titanium White) to create different shades of green or adjust the hues of personal care products and cosmetics. Though it's considered safe for use in soaps, there are some concerns around chromium oxide's persistence in the environment, and it is prohibited for use in lip products in the US, which contributes to its moderate EWG score.
