Ingredient - Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT)

Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) is a chemical used in a wide range of cosmetics and foods as an antioxidant and preservative. High doses of BHT have been shown to cause significant damage to the lungs, liver and kidneys, however when applied topically in skincare, BHT is not readily absorbed into the bloodstream. Conflicting research on the safety, carcinogenic and anti-carcinogenic properties of BHT make it a controversial ingredient around the world.
