Ingredient - Myroxylon Pereirae (Balsam Peru) Oil
The Peru Balsam (Myroxylon balsamum pereirae) is a species of evergreen tree found in rainforests of Central and South America. Trees grow up to 35 meters tall, producing dense foliage, white flowers and fruit pods that contain a single seed. Measured incisions can be made on the trunks of adult trees to harvest the aromatic resin, which can be steam distilled to produce essential oil. Peru balsam oil is used as a fragrance ingredient in soaps, shampoos and other personal care products, and also as a flavouring ingredient in some foods. It is a known contact allergen to a percentage of people, and should be used with care.
