Benzyl Benzoate

Benzyl benzoate is an organic compound appearing as either a colourless liquid or solid flakes, and is created with benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid. Although synthesized for industry, benzyl alcohol occurs naturally in many plants, including hyacinth and tuberose blossoms, and is also a component of Balsam of Peru. Benzyl benzoate has a slight balsamic-sweet fragrance. In perfumery, it is often used as a fixative, to help preserve the longevity of a fragrance.

While it is a best-in-class chemical and among the safest available for this particular function, we consider this an area for safer chemistry innovation.
